New Renewable Frontier for Major TV and Film Studio Through Clean Power Partnership

Green hydrogen start-up PlusZero signs Memorandum of Understanding with Serious Stages to decarbonise Longcross Film Studios

Clean power start-up PlusZero has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with staging specialists Serious Stages to replace greenhouse-gas emitting generators at one of the UK’s leading TV and film production sites with a fully renewable alternative powered by green hydrogen technologies..

An industry leader for over 35 years, Serious Stages is a major staging supplier for the iconic Glastonbury Festival, more recently expanding into specialist temporary buildings for the TV and film sector.

The partnership with PlusZero will see the two companies explore a fully renewable energy solution for Longcross Film Studios, Serious Stages’ largest film production location in the UK and the filming site of the recent Mission: Impossible 7 in addition to numerous Disney+ productions.

Global streaming and production companies including Disney+ and Netflix have announced bold ambitions to meet net zero across their operations. The collaboration between PlusZero and Serious Stages is therefore timely, and will explore options to power off-grid TV and film production using green hydrogen technologies including the potential for on-site hydrogen production using renewable sources such as solar or wind.

PlusZero creates portable, zero-carbon generators that are powered by green hydrogen produced in Scotland’s Western Isles from surplus onshore renewable electricity. Launched in 2021, PlusZero’s pioneering green hydrogen generator has this summer provided clean power for the three-day HebCelt music festival in Scotland’s Western Isles, in addition to numerous events over 2021 at Edinburgh’s International Festival, COP26 and others.

David Amos, Managing Director at PlusZero said:

“At PlusZero, our mission is to provide carbon-free power wherever it is needed. Portable power is a significant requirement for the film and TV industry and our pioneering green hydrogen generator has already displaced tons of harmful greenhouse gases that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere by traditional diesel generators at outdoor events.

“I am hugely excited to have signed this Memorandum of Understanding with Serious Stages and firmly believe our work together at Longcross Studios can set a precedent for the UK’s burgeoning film and TV industry to fully decarbonise.”

Max Corfield-Moore, Operations Manager and Director at Serious Stages said:

“Serious Stages have been industry innovators for over 35 years and we are very excited to be working in partnership with PlusZero to incorporate fully renewable power solutions into the work that we do supporting the UK’s film and TV industry.”
