State-Of-The-Art Hydrofoil Concept Powered By Scottish Green Hydrogen On Display At All-Energy

Green Hydrogen production and distribution start-up PlusZero Energy is exhibiting a state-of-the-art hydrofoil concept at the All-Energy Conference in Glasgow this week.

Vital Spark is a 3-point hydrofoil designed by Paul Sparrow of Berkeley Sportscars and has been donated by owner Martin Rees, CEO of Berkeley Industries, to be the ultimate high-efficiency circuit racing boat. Vital Spark has been developed further by Spencer Ashley, PlusZero’s Product Development Director and Captain of the Scottish National E-boat team.

The hydrofoil is being utilised to raise awareness of the multiple uses of Green Hydrogen, including in applications such as dockside clean energy and related support and transport infrastructure.

PlusZero Energy’s Green Hydrogen, produced on Scotland’s Western Isles from islands renewable energy, will be used to power a variety of electric motors from 1.5KW to 156 KW that could be installed in the hydrofoil during trialling and further development phases.

David Amos, Managing Director at PlusZero said:

“PlusZero is incredibly grateful for Martin’s support in donating Vital Spark to PlusZero, so that we can demonstrate the effective deployment of our Western Isles-produced Green Hydrogen.

“This working concept will be a hugely exciting indicator of the true potential of Green Hydrogen to provide zero-emissions power for a variety of uses. Working with insight and sector leaders like Martin, Paul Sparrow, and our very own Spencer Ashley who are driving such innovation, PlusZero is making hydrogen happen.”

Martin Rees, Group CEO of Berkeley Sports Cars and Mobility Partner at Prime Advantage Capital Partners said:

“Demonstrating Vital Spark at the All-Energy event shows that innovation is alive and well in the Green Hydrogen sector, and in the hands of the team at PlusZero Energy it will further demonstrate the potential of Green Hydrogen to engage and entertain. Berkeley looks forward to further collaboration with PlusZero to take Vital Spark to the next stage.”

The hydrofoil is on display in booths Q10 and R10 at the SEC in Glasgow on 11 and 12 May.
